i can count tasks, screens, messages, and launches. those numbers tell me that something happened. they do not always tell me whether it helped.
the useful question is what changed for the person using the product. did they finish the task with less effort? did they understand the result? could they recover from a mistake? did the system save time without creating new uncertainty?
i still need activity measures to see whether work is moving. i just do not want to mistake motion for impact. the closer a measure is to a real user outcome, the harder it is to hide behind a busy dashboard.
